It has been quite a ride with SOFREP over the years and it is impossible to convey how much we appreciate your support. When we first started SOFREP our goal was to become the #1 source of Special Operations news and information. We soon met that goal and surpassed it, soon growing beyond our niche and breaking news stories about everything from covert operations to domestic politics. SOFREP is something that we all have a sentimental attachment to, but over time we came to realize that the name is also limiting and does not accurately describe what we do. We now cast a larger net and report on far larger issues than just the those that involve the Special Operations community.
We will always report on SOF and we will never forget that our troops are still at war. Part of our mandate is to make sure that the American public never forgets this fact either. However, we also want a name that better reflects the diversity in our reporting and communicates what we do to a larger audience. This is why after much deliberation we decided to rename our website NEWSREP, maintaining the ‘rep (report) but also telling people that we don’t just do SOF news but all news even if the emphasis is heavy on domestic security, foreign policy, finance (how conflict affects markets—also look for a monthly newsletter on this) and military affairs.
It means so much to all of us here that you have stuck with us through thick and thin, and that you have enabled us to grow to this point where we are able to take off the training wheels and confront the next big challenge before us. We look forward to building NEWSREP together, with you. Keep an eye out for the change to NEWSREP, which will be taking effect on August 15th.
